YOUR SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE PRESENTS:
Soccer goes to 2-0 in Big East
Softball opens fall season
Louisville registered two second half goals to overtake DePaul in women's soccer yesterday in Chicago. Although arrangements could not be made to transport Bill the Goat (pictured right) to the contest, the Cards rallied behind freshman Julie Casselman and senior Shannon Leamy to notch their second BIG EAST win. The first half proved to be a defensive struggle and the teams went into the halftime break locked in a scoreless tie.
DePaul found the net first first fifteen minutes into the final half when Arianna Foster kicked one in past Cardinal goalie Taylor Vancil to give the Blue Demons a brief lead. Louisville tied the contest sixteen minutes later when Leamy controlled a missed Cardinal shot and sent the ball to the back of the net past DePaul goalie Claire Hanold.
Louisville wasted no time taking the lead when Cassleman connected on a shot past Hanold. Louisville (8-1) returns home to play #5 Notre Dame on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Fall softball this afternoon for Sandy Pearsall's BatCards. Chelsea Bemis leads Louisville against crosstown opponent Bellarmine for a doubleheader at Ulmer Stadium. CARDINAL COUPLE will provide a full report on the exhibition games tomorrow.
