Becca Greenwell has verballed to Duke

( This is the final article in our preview of the 2012-13 University of Louisville Women's Basketball players. We feature freshman Megan Deines today.)

Megan Deines joins the University of Louisville women's basketball team after a successful four year stay at Glendale High School (Springfield, MO). The 6'1" point guard averaged 16.2 points, 7 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game her senior year at Glendale and her team finished with a 22-4 record. She was named conference player of the year and also was selected first-team all conference her sophomore, junior and senior years.

The biggest question about her is what to call her. Her high school teammates preferred Lucie (part of her middle name). She also developed the nickname 'Frenchy', since she was born in France...where her Dad was a professional basketball player and she lived there until she was nine. Press releases identify her as Megan. We'll go with Megan until we hear differently.

One thing you can't call her is average or mediocre.

The scout on Megan has her as a taller than average point guard with excellent ball-handling skills who passes well and runs the offense. She's able to get up and the court quickly in transition and set. She possess a decent mid-range jumper and can hit consistently from beyond the arc. Looks to pass first and could be a valuable assist creator for more proven scorers.

She joins a Louisville team that basically went without a experienced point guard last season...the Schimmel sisters and Shelby Harper filling the role. Therefore, the opportunity is there for her to serve a valuable role on the team ...depending how quickly she can learn the demanding Walz offensive sets and system.

The question mark on her...and something that we're not real sure on how she tests out is defense. Given her size and overall quickness, she should be able to handle smaller point guards she faces but we won't know about that until she's faced a few of the best that the BIG EAST has to offer.

She looks to be a player that will blend in well with the Cardinal style of basketball and could be a key element coming in off the bench to spell the Cards guards.

As a junior in high school, ESPN listed her a "sleeper" that could continue to improve with more experience and playing time. We're confident she'll catch unaware opponents asleep and  be an immediate contributor to Louisville basketball this season and down the road.

We hope you've enjoyed these weekly looks at the players that will make up the 2012-13 Louisville Cardinals womens' basketball team. Like us, we're sure you're ready for the season to get underway.

Three weeks until the team takes to the KFC YUM! Center court to begin the season...against Eckerd College on October 31st. We can hardly wait to see the Lady Cards in action!
