WELCOME to Tuesday @ C.C.
-Jude Schimmel putting up numbers in Oregon
-An early look at Lacrosse.
-Softball heads to Texas
.
-Cardinal Couple crashes the airwaves
.
Here in the 'Ville, Shoni Schimmel creates her magic for the University of Louisville as a freshman. Out in Portland, Oregon...her younger sister Jude (pictured here) is creating wizardry for her Franklin, Oregon high school team. Look at these numbers for the senior guard:
-29.7 points per game (tops in the state)
-9.4 rebounds (and...she's only 5'5")
-5.6 assists ( not bad for a shooting, point guard)
-7.8 steals...(seriously? There are plenty of teams that average less)
Jude has had six triple-doubles for Frankin and scored over 30 points eight times this season. She put up 51 points on Dec. 28th., just five points off the Oregon Girls High School Basketball state record.
.
Her Franklin team is 9-9 on the season, 7-4 in conference play. Her father and assistant coach Rick Schimmel indicates that Jude is looking at several schools in several divisions of college basketball and has no clear favorite yet. We're not surprised...her sister Shoni waited until graduation day to make her choice.
Schimmel is ranked as the 98th. best guard in the nation by ESPN..a number we think might be way underrated when you look at her stats...and gets a scouts grade of 82...another figure we think should be better. The knock on her has been her size and strength...we remember a diminutive point guard at the University of Louisville named Patrika Barlow who chalked up 7 assists a game in two years at Louisville. Sometimes, good things come in small packages. Ever seen Lorin Dixon of UConn play?

Louisville Lacrosse coach Kellie Young has named Bergan Foley, Liz Lovejoy and Jamie Ward as captains of the 2011 UofL Lacrosse team. The season begins Feb. 20th. at Cardinal Lacrosse Stadium against Binghamton. Louisville went 11-6 last season, 4-4 in the BIG EAST and returns a powerful squad from 2010. Foley and Lovejoy are excellent attackers and the Cards are very deep at midfield with Emily Dashiell, Lianne Bobal, Katie Oliverio, Sammy Allen, Aimee Dixon and Meghan Ryan. Defenders Ward, Ashley King and Colleen Nevin return for another season and sophomore starting goalie Danielle Pawliw guards the net.
.
There are 10 home games for the Cards this year and conference foes Cincinnati, Rutgers, Villanova and Notre Dame visit. The Cards go on the road to face BIG EAST foes Loyola (Md.), UConn, Syracuse and Georgetown. Out of conference schools of note visiting the 'Ville are Old Dominion, Oregon, Stanford, Ohio State and Vandy. Louisville does not play Kentucky this year.

Louisville softball begins their season in two days in Austin, Texas. The Cards will get in five games in four days...starting with Texas. Louisville will face Northern Illinois on Friday and Tulsa on Saturday. The Cards get an additional game (TBA) on Saturday and another TBA on Sunday. Should give Coach Sandy Pearsall plenty of chances to test her three pitchers and the new catchers on the squad. The Cards are loaded with returning players, including BIG EAST Player of the Year Chelsea Bemis. Good thing the season opener isn't here in Louisville...the squads would be throwing snowballs instead of softballs. How's those plans for a dome over Ulmer Stadium going, Tom Jurich?
.
In an interview we did with Sandy a few days ago, we discussed the idea of Cardinal softball being on the radio. This brought an e-mail from Carla, a regular reader here in Louisville:
.
Cardinal Couple,
Why not TV for Cardinal softball, too? Soccer and other women's sports have been shown here locally on TV. Maybe WHAS or someone like WAZOO Sports could do this? Please ask your readers to contact the appropriate media outlets and request these things."
You just handled it for us, Carla. Contact the station managers at CARDS RADIO, WHAS TV and Wazoo Sports and let them know how feel. (Internet usually works best on these things...)

CARDINAL COUPLE Co-Owner and Senior Columnist Paul Sykes is scheduled to make another appearance on Knight Rider Radio Tuesday night. The Bullitt County Internet station can be accessed over at Cardinal Dominance http://www.cardinaldominance.net/ . You can also go to http://www.knightriderradio.spruz.com/ . We've also linked it up in the 'sites we recommend' column over on the infamous 'left side' of our site.
The show runs from 8-10 p.m. We're not sure what time show host Shannon Ruffra is having Paul on the air...so you should probably listen to the whole show. Last week's CARDINAL COUPLE segment is also available at Cardinal Dominance...fast forward to the 2:45 mark to catch the "Big Guy" if you don't have time to listen to the three hour broadcast. They play some decent music on Knight Rider as well...and you can request your favorite songs as well. See you on the radio.
.
Shannon has several other guests lined up...including two high school basketball stars, Seneca football star Michael Stewart, the Sultan of South Beach...DiMori and former UofL baseball stud Josh Richmond. Should be a good listen...
