LADY CARDS tied for 3rd place in BIG EAST

.
WEDNESDAY CARDINAL COUPLE

-Lady Cards 5-2 in BIG EAST...standings...

-Tuesday night BIG EAST action

Almost at the halfway mark of the BIG EAST schedule, the University of Louisville women's basketball team sits tied for third place in the BIG EAST standings with a conference record of 5-2. Louisville is tied with St. John's for third.

The ranking is encouraging...but the remaining nine games won't be as easy as the first seven. Still ahead for the Lady Cards are UConn, Notre Dame, DePaul twice and WVU...all over .500 for the season and all but DePaul over .500 in conference. The Cards also face Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Villanova...who will visit the KFC YUM! Center Saturday.

Louisville has their work cut out for them. Even though UConn and Notre Dame are at the KFC YUM!, these two have pretty much separated themselves from the rest of the BIG EAST talent-wise. DePaul is still struggling without Keisha Hampton...but Anna Martin has assumed the scoring leadership and the Blue Demons are losing some heart breakers. Syracuse always plays Louisville tough. Villanova attempts close to 25 threes a game and Laura Sweeney is always a threat. WVU rebounds as well as anyone in the league. Even cellar dwellers Pitt and Seton Hall can't be overlooked. Not in this conference. Fun times ahead, exciting basketball and...hopefully, a bunch of Lady Cardinal wins.

********************************************************

Tuesday night in the BIG EAST featured three games. The highlight game of the night had to be the DePaul vs. Rutgers match up in the RAC. Khadija Rushdan hit an off-balance, rim-rolling layup with 2 seconds left to give Rutgers a 65-64 lead. A desperation DePaul shot fell short at the buzzer. DePaul led this one 58-49 with 5:40 remaining. Rushdan lead the Scarlet Knights with 24 points...Anna Martin totaled 26 for the hard-luck Blue Demons....who led most of the second half.

Georgetown rebounded from the home loss to Louisville to defeat West Virginia 64-54 in Morgantown. WVU led 24-23 at the half. For the Hoyas, Tia Magee and Sugar Rodgers tallied 17 points each. Chrystal Caldwell ended up with 25 for the Mountaineers. Georgetown shot 41% for the game...but lost the rebounding battle to WVU.

Villanova tuned up for their trip to Louisville with a home win over Cincinnati 62-53. The Wildcats were 10-23 from three-point range and led 33-18 at halftime. Laura Sweeney netted 14 for VU, Bjonee Reaves tossed in 20 for the hapless Bearcats.
