In a recent post I talked about the upcoming game between Marion County High School and Manual High School.
The teams met this past Saturday in what looked to be a marquee matchup between the top two teams in the State. The game appears to have lived up to all the hype.
Marion County won the game, but not until two free throws were made with 2.7 seconds left, by junior Logan Powell. The final score was 63-61.
Louisville 2013 (verbal) commit Kyvin Goodin-Rogers put up a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Makayla Epps, also a Louisville (verbal) commit in the class of 2013, scored 16 points and dished out 8 assists.
The two, along with senior and Dayton signee Bre Elder(11 points), led the team in what will likely be the first of several meetings between the two teams. Marion County lost the last match between the two in the Sweet 16 last year.
Marion County (14-2) remains unbeaten against in-state competition.
This looks like another outstanding performance by our “baby birds”. Not to wish away their high school years, but I certainly look forward to seeing these two in Cardinal Red a few years down the road. Until then, I look to catch these two in action in the upcoming state tournament.
