Louisville womens' soccer announces 2010 opponents
The University of Louisville womens' soccer team will have a full and challenging schedule in 2010, hosting nine opponents in Cardinal Park and facing off against six teams that participated in the NCAA tournament last year.
The Cards start 2010 play with a couple of exhibition games...going to Dayton to begin things on Aug. 10th. and hosting Tennessee for another preseason match on Aug. 14th. The regular season kicks off Aug. 20th. against Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 20th at Cardinal Park.
Early on, they'll be tested at the Gamecock Courtyard Cup in Columbia S.C. with games against South Carolina and Bucknell on Aug. 27th. and 28th.
Other games have UK travelling to Louisville for a Sept. 9th. contest and the Cards will open Big East play on Sept. 20th. at home against Cincinnati.
Tough end of the regular season awaits Louisville...with road games vs. USF, Marquette, Seton Hall and Rutgers.
The BIG EAST championships will be held in Piscataway, N.J. beginning Oct. 28th. and the NCAA Championships will take place at Cary, N.C.
The Cards were 5-11-1 in the 2009 season...going 2-8-1 in BIG EAST competition. Giselle Mangal, co-leading scorer from last year returns to midfielder position and sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Vancil handles net duties for UofL. She allowed 24 goals in 17 games last year and was credited with 38 saves.
Coach Karen Ferguson has seven recruits coming to campus this fall...includung 3 girls from Ontario, Canada.
