SATURDAY CARDINAL COUPLE:
-Women's soccer takes 5-0 win at Eastern
-Young adds two assistants
-Alumni Game tonight for WBB
Five different Cardinals scored last night in the whitewash of the Colonels and Chloe Kiefer notched a shutout between the pipes in the road win at Richmond, KY.
"It's always nice to start the season with a win." head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes commented after the win. "Going back to our first preseason scrimmage..we continue to get better with every game. It's great to see so many players, from the starters to the kids that are coming off the bench, play such an integral role in our success."
Jordan Pawlik booted home the Cards first goal of the season and freshman Kim Sharo added a score to give the Cards a 2-0 halftime advantage. Christine Exeter got in the act to begin the second half and the Cards received goals from Devyn Ciotti and Angelika Uremovich to close out the Cardinals offensive efforts.
Kiefer had two saves at goalie. The Cards will travel to Toledo next Friday before opening the homestand against Illinois on Sunday, Aug. 28th.

Lacrosse coach Kelly Young has brought on board two new coaches for women's lacrosse. Crysti Foote joins the Cards, coming from Notre Dame...where she was an assistant last season. She had a very successful playing career with the Irish also, gathering All-American honors twice while setting Notre Dame records in game played and goals scored. She is also still a member of Canada's World Cup team and her knowledge of the offensive attack game should great of great value to a Cardinal squad decimated by graduation.
Victoria Latino joins UofL after head coaching Manhattan last season. She'll head up the Cardinals defensive efforts and was a two year starter for the Jaspers prior to going into coaching in 2005.
"I am thrilled to have two such talented women join our staff and the Louisville family." commented Young. "They bring a wealth of energy and excitement, .a true love for the game and a passion for coaching. We feel they can continue to help build on what we have started and help us move the program to the next level."

Volleyball set for an exhibition game against the alumnae tonight at 6 p.m. in Cardinal Arena. The Cards are picked to win the BIG EAST this season and return key performers Gwen Rucker, Emily Juhl and Lola Arslanbeckova from last year's BIG EAST Tournament Championship team. Coach Kordes is excited about the upcoming season and seating could be slim pickings tonight as the wide net girls draw very well for matches.
CARDINAL COUPLE will have the dig and set up on the action and review it for you tomorrow.
